Zikura International College is proud to announce the approval of CORAL – Climate-Oriented Resilience and Adaptation Learning: Jean Monnet Module Supporting Climate Education in the Maldives (Project Reference: 101319794), co-financed by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme.
This landmark achievement marks the first Jean Monnet project ever awarded in the Maldives, representing an important milestone for Zikura International College and for the development of European Union studies in the country.
Jean Monnet Actions are part of the Erasmus+ Programme and support teaching, research, and academic dialogue on the European Union, its policies, values, and integration process.
Running from October 2026 to 30 September 2029, CORAL aims to strengthen knowledge and awareness of EU climate governance, sustainability policies, and regulatory approaches through interdisciplinary teaching, research, and dialogue among academia, policymakers, and civil society in the Maldives.
Under the leadership of Dr Fathimath Rasheed, Vice Rector of Zikura International College, the project will develop and deliver nine courses on the European Union and climate change, alongside research and dissemination activities. CORAL will also promote EU studies through one publication per year addressing European integration and climate change and three dissemination events involving academics, policymakers, and civil society.
With the Grant Agreement already signed, the next steps will include the detailed design of project activities, development of the CORAL project webpage, preparation of teaching materials, and enrolment of students for the upcoming courses.
Through CORAL, Zikura International College strengthens its international academic profile and its commitment to climate education, sustainability, and international cooperation, while opening a new chapter for Jean Monnet Actions in the Maldives.
