Bachelor of Arts in Arabic Language (BAAL) Goals of the programme: Arabic is the language in which the Holy Quran was
revealed. It is the language which Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) - the last
of the prophets - spoke. It is, therefore, the language in which that preserved his sacred
traditions. Thus, the two basic sources of Islam, the Holy Quran and the Sunnah, are
available in the Arabic language.
Other than this, with over 300 million speakers worldwide, the Arabic language has
spread across the globe and continues to grow in all areas of the world. The global
economy has seen the Arabic language become increasingly important and with the
language holding official language status in 27 countries, knowledge of the Arabic
language will become the key to innumerable opportunities.
As Maldivians are Muslims, and the Maldives are looking to advance in the field of
education, economy, business, tourism etc., Arabic language is one of the most
important language to learn.
